1 2 Samuel 1 After the death of Saul, when David had returned from the slaughter of the Amalekites, and David had stayed two days in Ziklag, 2 2 Samuel 2 After this, David inquired of the LORD, saying, “Shall I go up into any of the cities of Judah?” The LORD said to him, “Go up.” David said, “Where shall I go up?” He said, “To Hebron.” 3 2 Samuel 3 Now there was long war between Saul’s house and David’s house. David grew stronger and stronger, but Saul’s house grew weaker and weaker. 4 2 Samuel 4 When Saul’s son heard that Abner was dead in Hebron, his hands became feeble, and all the Israelites were troubled. 5 2 Samuel 5 Then all the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron and spoke, saying, “Behold, we are your bone and your flesh. 6 2 Samuel 6 David again gathered together all the chosen men of Israel, thirty thousand. 7 2 Samuel 7 When the king lived in his house, and the LORD had given him rest from all his enemies all around, 8 2 Samuel 8 After this, David struck the Philistines and subdued them; and David took the bridle of the mother city out of the hand of the Philistines. 9 2 Samuel 9 David said, “Is there yet any who is left of Saul’s house, that I may show him kindness for Jonathan’s sake?” 10 2 Samuel 10 After this, the king of the children of Ammon died, and Hanun his son reigned in his place. 11 2 Samuel 11 At the return of the year, at the time when kings go out, David sent Joab and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon and besieged Rabbah. But David stayed at Jerusalem. 12 2 Samuel 12 The LORD sent Nathan to David. He came to him, and said to him, “There were two men in one city: the one rich, and the other poor. 13 2 Samuel 13 After this, Absalom the son of David had a beautiful sister, whose name was Tamar; and Amnon the son of David loved her. 14 2 Samuel 14 Now Joab the son of Zeruiah perceived that the king’s heart was toward Absalom. 15 2 Samuel 15 After this, Absalom prepared a chariot and horses for himself, and fifty men to run before him. 16 2 Samuel 16 When David was a little past the top, behold, Ziba the servant of Mephibosheth met him with a couple of donkeys saddled, and on them two hundred loaves of bread, and one hundred clusters of raisins, and one hundred summer fruits, and a container of wine. 17 2 Samuel 17 Moreover Ahithophel said to Absalom, “Let me now choose twelve thousand men, and I will arise and pursue after David tonight. 18 2 Samuel 18 David counted the people who were with him, and set captains of thousands and captains of hundreds over them. 19 2 Samuel 19 Joab was told, “Behold, the king weeps and mourns for Absalom.” 20 2 Samuel 20 There happened to be there a wicked fellow, whose name was Sheba the son of Bichri, a Benjamite; and he blew the trumpet, and said, “We have no portion in David, neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse. Every man to his tents, Israel!” 21 2 Samuel 21 There was a famine in the days of David for three years, year after year; and David sought the face of the LORD. The LORD said, “It is for Saul, and for his bloody house, because he put the Gibeonites to death.” 22 2 Samuel 22 David spoke to the LORD the words of this song in the day that the LORD delivered him out of the hand of all his enemies, and out of the hand of Saul, 23 2 Samuel 23 Now these are the last words of David. David the son of Jesse says, the man who was raised on high says, the anointed of the God of Jacob, the sweet psalmist of Israel: 24 2 Samuel 24 Again the LORD’s anger burned against Israel, and he moved David against them, saying, “Go, count Israel and Judah.”
